The Brazilian artist Cinthia Marcelle, who is presenting an extensive retrospective of her work at MACBA, in her first exhibition in Europe, considers that “neither art nor the artist is above anyone”, an idea that runs through all of her creations.
Known internationally for her evocative site-specific installations for places like New York, Porto Alegre, Sharjah and Vienna, Marcelle repeats “similar gestures at radically different scales,” notes curator Isobel Whitelegg.
