Putin was wearing a doctor’s coat and spoke to an injured person about his baby and said he would be proud of his father. Earlier in the day, a Kremlin spokesman had said Putin would visit the wounded because he is interested in the fate of the soldiers injured in “the special military operation,” as the war against Ukraine is being called in the Kremlin.
It is not known how many Russians or their eastern Ukrainian allies were wounded or killed. The Russian defense ministry last reported in March that 1,351 soldiers had been killed. According to Kiev, nearly 30,000 Russian soldiers have been killed in three months of war.
