UEFA extended the ban of Russian clubs from European cups for one year. With this decision, Trabzonspor, which has reached the championship in the Super League, will participate in the Champions League from the Play-Off instead of the 3rd pre-qualification.
On 28 February 2022, the UEFA Executive Committee extended its decision to suspend the participation of all Russian representative teams and clubs in UEFA competitions until further notice.
In the statement made on the official website of UEFA, it was announced that Russian clubs will not be able to take part in the Champions League, Europa League, European Conference League, Women’s Champions League and Youth League in the 2022/23 season.
After the Russian clubs were banned from the European cups in the 2022-23 season, the teams that will go to Europe from Turkey are also affected. This decision made Turkey the 13th in the UEFA Country Rankings for the 2022-23 season, and the 12th place. Thus, reaching the championship in the Super League, Trabzonspor will participate in the Champions League group participation process from the Play-Off instead of the 3rd pre-qualification; i.e. instead of 2 qualifying rounds, one qualifying round will be played.
