Jakarta –
WhatsApp first time introduce features disappearing messages last year to improve user privacy. Now they are rolling out an update to this feature that makes messages even more secure and private.
As is known, the disappearing messages feature allows users to send messages that will be deleted automatically after a certain duration. Users can also send media such as photos, videos, and GIFs through this mode.
With the latest update for media visibility, WhatsApp will not automatically download photos or other media to the phone gallery if the disappearing messages feature is active in chat.
This update was discovered by WABetaInfo and is already available on the latest versions of WhatsApp for Android and iOS. This feature is starting to be rolled out to all users and will be fully active in the near future.
From the screenshot shared by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp has now turned off the ‘media visibility’ option for disappearing messages in WhatsApp for Android. That option allows users to download photos or other media and save them in the gallery automatically.

Not only for Android, WhatsApp also released a similar update to iOS where the option to ‘Save to Camera Roll’ is turned off automatically if the disappearing messages feature is active in chat.
This update was released to improve user privacy when using the disappearing messages feature and to make media more private in chat, as quoted from WABetaInfo, Saturday (9/4/2022).
Even so, users can still save photos or other media manually in chat with disappearing messages. Some WhatsApp users on Android already have this option, and for… WhatsApp on iOS users can also save media manually as usual.
This isn’t the only WhatsApp feature aimed at making photos and other media more private. WhatsApp also has a view once feature that can delete photos or videos automatically after being viewed once by the recipient of the message.
