Russia’s invasion of Ukraine – Blinken explained why the US does not impose preventive sanctions against Russia

The United States of America will not impose preventive sanctions against Russia due to the buildup of Russian troops near the borders of Ukraine. US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken explained this decision.

Blinken said that the new sanctions now imposed could lead to the loss of the deterrent effect.

“When it comes to sanctions, the purpose of these sanctions is to deter Russian aggression. If you introduce them now, you will lose the deterrent effect,” he said.

At the same time, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky earlier called for restrictions before the alleged Russian invasion, and not after it begins.
