Instagram is particularly popular with children and young people. However, especially in teenage girls, its use can also have an impact on mental health. The parent company Facebook is therefore currently under criticism.

In March 2021, it was announced that Facebook was working on a version of its Instagram platform for children under the age of 13. Criticism of these plans quickly became loud. Among other things, the justice ministers of 44 American states and territories called on CEO Mark Zuckerberg to drop the “Instagram Kids” project. Almost six months later, Facebook announced this week that it would pause work on it.
