Passengers reported hearing a loud bang prior to smoke development. Fourteen minutes after departure for Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris, the plane returned to Beijing airport. No one was injured in the emergency landing.
Maintenance work will be carried out on the aircraft and passengers were offered alternative flights to Paris, the airline said.
Boeing, one of the world’s largest aircraft manufacturers, has been in the news more often in recent years due to technical faults with its aircraft. Safety issues with 737 Max jetliners, which were involved in two fatal accidents, have cost the company more than €17 billion ($20 billion) and have tarnished the aircraft maker’s reputation.
