The Taliban took over the city of Jalalabad in eastern Afghanistan last night. The Taliban now control the largest cities, after the capital Kabul.
Jalalabad has a strategic position. The city is located on a major road used for transporting goods to and from Pakistan.
There was little opposition to the takeover by the Taliban. An Afghan official from Jalalabad told Reuters news agency that the only way to save civilians’ lives was to cooperate.
