Borussia Dortmund managed to come out as champion DFB Cup 2020/2021. In the final match, Die Borussen appeared perfect to crush RB Leipzig 4-1.
In the duel that was held at the Berlin Olympiastadion, Friday (14/5/2021), Dortmund was already winning 3-0 in the first half through a pair of goals from Jadon Sancho and Erling Haaland.
Dani Olmo had time to live up to Leipzig’s hopes in the second half, before Haaland scored his second goal at the end of the match. This is Dortmund’s fifth title at this event as well as providing a bitter farewell gift between Julian Nagelsmann and RB Leipzig.
This is Leipzig’s second defeat in the DFB Pokal final after the 2018/2019 season.
The course of the match
Dortmund immediately attacked from the kickoff whistle and pressed the Leipzig defense. The result in the fifth minute, Dortmund was already leading through Jadon Sancho.
Starting with the ball Marco Reus grabbed from Kevin Kampl and passed to Erling Haaland in a situation on the counter attack. Haaland dribbled the ball which was moved to the center occupied by Mahmoud Dahoud.
Dahoud gave it to Sancho on the left which he finished with a right-footed shot into Peter Gulasci’s far post.

Leipzig did control the match but they struggled to break through the Dortmund defense. Alexander Sorloth, Marce Sabitzer and Hwang Hee-Chan were able to make no chances in attack.
The Leipzig goal was conceded again in the 28th minute, this time it was Haaland’s turn to score. Starting from Reus’s breakthrough bait to Haaland who ran towards the penalty box.
Despite being led by Dayot Upamecano, Haaland was able to escape and make the Leipzig player fall into the penalty box, before shooting with his left foot into the net.

Leipzig tries to reply in the 39th minute through Sorloth who receives the ball on the right side of the Dortmund defense, but his shot goes wide.
Dortmund added another goal at the end of the first half. Again the counter-attack made the Leipzig defense disorganized, this time Reus took the lead after receiving Haaland’s through ball.
Close to goal, Reus makes a pass to Sancho on the right and is easily struck into the net. This goal was reviewed by VAR because Reus was deemed offside, although it was finally passed.
