Navalny, 44, went on a hunger strike at the end of March because he would not receive adequate care for his back and leg complaints in prison. His health is deteriorating rapidly, according to his lawyers. Navalny wants to be examined by a doctor of his choice, but that is not allowed.
Navalny has lost 8 kilos since the start of his hunger strike, according to his team. In total he would have lost 15 kilos since his imprisonment in a penal colony some 100 kilometers from Moscow.
Prison sentence
The Kremlin critic was sentenced to 2.5 years in prison in February. The court ruled that he violated the terms of his parole in a fraud case with his stay in Germany, where Navalny was being treated for poisoning. According to him, it would have been the work of the Kremlin.
