The High Council of Health – a body of experts – on Thursday evening formulated an opinion on the administration of the AstraZeneca vaccine. Until now, the vaccine – which may cause a very rare form of blood clot – has only been administered to people over 55 for four weeks. Recent data shows that there have also been cases in the 55 to 60 year old group. It is therefore recommended to only vaccinate people over 60 if that would not cause too much delay. “We were already aware of this advice when we decided to vaccinate only 55+ people with AstraZeneca,” says health minister Frank Vandenbroucke (Vooruit).
