Wales plan talks with Juventus

Aaron Ramsey has made 27 appearances for Juventus this season

Wales are planning talks with Juventus about the availability of midfielder Aaron Ramsey for the World Cup qualifiers.

Ramsey was called up by Wales for qualifying in Belgium on March 24 and at home in the Czech Republic on March 30.

The 30-year-old missed Juventus’ 3-1 Serie A victory in Cagliari on Sunday with a thigh injury, which Italian media say will keep him away for three weeks.

“We will have a dialogue with the club and see where we are at,” Wales deputy chief Robert Page said.

Page said it would be “as usual” for Wales as he remains in office for this month’s games while manager Ryan Giggs remains out.

Giggs had his extended deposit until May 1 after denying the assault charge.

Page called a team of 31 men for the World Cup qualifiers and a friendly with Mexico, including Ramsey despite Juventus coach Andrea Pirlo saying he had “physical problems”.

“We have to be understanding in the way we are handling the situation and communication between us and the club is crucial,” said Page.

“We’ll have conversations and if we think it’s possible to bring him in and play some parts of these matches, then we’ll see.

“But we have to respect the fact that Juventus may not want to risk it and finish their recovery there.

“Our medical team won’t take any chances if they’re not in good shape, but we’ll see if we can get them through and take a look.”

Ramsey has only started three of Wales’ last 20 games due to injury and has only played once since Wales qualified for the delayed 2020 European Championship.

This has led some Wales fans to question Ramsey’s commitment, but Page says no one will be more frustrated than the former Arsenal man.

“I understand where the supporters are coming from, but if you are injured, you are injured,” he added.

“No one will be more frustrated than Aaron right now. He can’t wait to come, he wants to enter the building and we look at him.

“We hope things change in the next 24 hours and we will have a clearer idea of what we’re going to do with him.

“But I wouldn’t question his commitment and every time he plays he adds value to the team.”
