On Monday, 293 new corona cases were registered in the capital. It is one of the highest numbers recorded since the start of the pandemic.

The trend in registered infection is according to VG’s overview rising in 53 Norwegian municipalities, including in Oslo.
On Monday, according to the municipality’s figures, 293 new cases of infection were registered here. There are 103 cases more than the average of the previous seven days, which is 191.
The infection rate is one of the highest recorded in the capital in a single day. On Thursday 4 March, 307 cases were registered in Oslo, however it included post-registration of just under 100 cases from the day before.
On Sunday, 189 new cases of infection were registered in Oslo, while the number on Monday one week ago was 136. Fewer people are generally registered as infected on public holidays and weekends than on weekdays.
VG special: Stovner – where the infection shot up in the air
The municipality’s infection rates differ somewhat from the daily figures in VG’s overview, which comes from the national Reporting System for Infectious Diseases (MSIS). It shows a record number of 368 new cases in Oslo on Monday. Here, cases are registered according to where people are registered, and not necessarily according to where they live.
Infection in the capital and the surrounding areas has increased recently, and at Akershus University Hospital (Ahus) the intensive care unit has exploded after a tripling of hospitalized corona patients.
Tuesday, March 2nd it was tightened sharply into Oslo, with, among other things, closed restaurants, red level in upper secondary schools and closed shops.

It is the English mutated virus variant that dominates in the capital. Between 50 to 70 percent of the positive samples are the British mutated variant of the coronavirus, City Councilor Raymond Johansen stated during the press conference about the new measures.
Since February 18, there has been a rising infection trend in the capital, according to VG’s overview.
Press conference on new measures
During a press conference on Sunday, Prime Minister Erna Solberg said that the national measures in Norway will probably also be stricter before they can be eased.
– The infection is increasing, the British variants are taking over. Therefore, we are not done with strict measures yet. In front of us, there is a hilltop until we have to cross, she said, among other things.
At 10 o’clock on Tuesday, the Prime Minister will meet the Storting to report on new measures. Afterwards, she will hold a press conference together with Minister of Health and Care Services Bent Høie, Health Director Bjørn Guldvog and NIPH Director Camilla Stoltenberg.
828 new cases of infection in Norway
In Norway as a whole, 828 new cases were registered on Monday. There are 266 cases more than the average of the previous seven days, which is 562.
There are also 99 cases more than them 729 cases of infection that were registered last Monday. The number is the highest since January 5, when it according to VG’s overview was set a daily record with 928 new cases of infection.
A total of 75,770 cases of infection have been confirmed in Norway since the start of the pandemic.
On average, it takes one to two days from the time a test result is ready until it is registered in the infectious disease reporting system (MSIS). The figures may therefore give a misleading picture of the infection situation in recent days, since it does not appear when the sample has been taken – only when it has been registered.
