easyJet: the new rules for hand luggage

easyJet it complies with the rules already introduced two years ago by WizzAir and Ryanair which allow you to bring in the cabin, at no extra charge, only a small bag to be placed under the front seat.

The new rules on hand baggage of the low cost airline come into effect on February 10 and these are therefore the last days of flight with the free trolley in the cabin. From that date, easyJet changed its hand baggage policy and limited its size so that you can still carry it with you at no extra cost to the ticket.

Till now the British company, unlike the others, still allowed to take to the cabin and place in the overhead bin a “big” baggage, usually a trolley, with a maximum size of 56x45x25cm. We are therefore talking about a trolley that can contain everything you need for a weekend away or a trip of a few days.

An opportunity appreciated and fully exploited by passengers internationally, especially by students and young people who took a short vacation or a weekend to discover Europe.

On February 10, however, the rules change and from now on easyJet will allow you to have with you in the cabin at no extra charge only one hand luggage of maximum size of 45x36x20cm to be placed no longer in the parcel shelf but under the seat opposite the passenger seat.

There remains the possibility of having a large hand luggage in the cabin, that is the classic trolley with a maximum size of 56x45x25 (including handles and wheels), for those passengers who buy a biglietto Extra legroom o Up Front which already includes an additional cost. In this case, the baggage will continue to be stored in the overhead bin.

Plus, travelers who have purchased a FLEXI ticket and easyJet plus card holders will be able to carry two pieces of luggage on board.

In all other cases, the luggage will be checked in the hold paying for the related service which, in low cost airlines, is in addition to flight ticket price.

EasyJet also adopts the rules already introduced by other airlines, a way to obtain additional revenue on the already minimal cost of tickets and a useful operation to facilitate and speed up boarding operations.
