According to the DWD, the Saarland clearly surpasses Baden-Württemberg. The country ranks second with an average rainfall of 160 liters per square meter. Nevertheless, compared to the “target value” of the international reference period between 1961 and 1990 (241 liters), autumn in Saarland was still quite dry.

In addition, it was above-average sunny in Saarland: The DWD comes to 345 hours of sunshine in its preliminary autumn balance. At 317 hours, the “setpoint” is slightly lower. With an average of 10.8 degrees, the “target value” of the autumn average temperatures (9.2 degrees) in the Saarland was exceeded.

With a Germany-wide average temperature of 10.3 degrees, according to the first evaluations of the 2000 measuring stations, according to the DWD, autumn 2020 was the fourth warmest since weather records began in 1881. With an average of 12 degrees, 2006 holds the previous record. In addition, autumn this year was the fifth driest since measurements began.
