Usiks defeated Chisor in 12 rounds of judging with 117: 112, 115: 113 and 115: 113, gaining his 18th victory in his professional career. This was also his second victory in super heavyweight, having previously beat Ches Whiterpoon.
Chisora started the fight with a considerable advantage, but Usiks withstood the first attacks. In the sixth round, the struggle had already leveled off, but the Ukrainian gained the lead. Both boxers made good attacks in the last rounds, however, Usik was more active in the ring, and the judges decided that he had won.
“It’s a real test. I had to fight a strong and heavy opponent. I expected it to be even harder. I give myself three points for this fight,” Usik said in a television interview after the fight. “My plan now is to go home, spend time with my family and train. I want to become the undisputed super heavyweight world champion.”
After the fight, Chisora himself believed that he had won the fight. “But the judges decided otherwise. Of course I’m disappointed,” said the British boxer. He suffered his tenth loss in his career, but he also has 32 wins.
It is significant that on Saturday, Russia’s Murat Gasiev also had his first fight in super heavyweight. Lost in the final heavyweight category of the World Boxing Super Series directly to Usikam. Gasijev defeated Albanian boxer Nuri Seferi in the first round.
