GeoNet, the New Zealand government’s earthquake watchdog, said: A 6.2 magnitude earthquake occurred on New Zealand’s South Island at 9:14 a.m. local time today (September 20).
The quake was centered about 45 kilometers north of Geraldine and had a depth of just 10 kilometers. The latest quake is New Zealand’s strongest this year.
GeoNet reports said more than 14,000 people across the South Island and in parts of the North Island felt the quake’s tremors.
However, there are no reports of damage at this time.
