The groundbreaking ceremony for Songdo Severance Hospital, Incheon’s representative long-awaited project, was held.
Songdo Severance Hospital, which will open at the end of 2026, has been postponed several times, so the construction of the hospital is expected to gain momentum through this groundbreaking ceremony.

A groundbreaking ceremony was held at Yonsei University International Campus in Songdo International City along with the celebration.
With the former and current mayors of Incheon, the chairman of Yonsei University, and the president of Yonsei University together, they made their first effort to build the Songdo Severance Hospital, Incheon’s long-awaited project.
Songdo Severance Hospital, which will be built with 800 beds on a site of 85,000 square meters, aims to be completed by the end of 2026.

The construction of Songdo Severance Hospital is under way with Incheon City and Yonsei University signed a 2nd phase business agreement for the international campus, and hospital design is currently underway.
The hospital will serve as a hub hospital in the Gyeongin area and the west coast, and at the same time play a role as a specialized research hospital with functions such as bio-convergence research.
Incheon’s initiative is to be reborn as a bio-innovation cluster in Songdo, as large companies in the bio field, universities and research institutes are concentrated.

The hospital construction plan, which started in 2006, has been criticized and distrusted for being too attracted to Yonsei University as the schedule has been postponed several times.
The groundbreaking ceremony two years earlier, ahead of the start of construction in the next year, has a symbolic meaning of dispelling such criticism and keeping the promise of opening the hospital in 2026.
