[사회]The second Jo Doo is about to disappear… Beware of the ‘Jessica Act’ mentioned by Han Dong-hoon

Since Justice Minister Han Dong-hoon has repeatedly mentioned the so-called “Jessica Act” in the United States in his New Year’s speech, the focus is on whether and when it will actually be introduced.

When the law is introduced, it will be possible to restrict the residence of pedophiles like Cho Doo-presto.

This was reported by journalist Kim Da-yeon.

Last year, our society was abuzz with concerns about the pace of sex offenders who are very concerned about recidivism.

Although the release was canceled, residents of the area where child sex offender Kim Geun-sik was supposed to stay once got angry even blocking the road.

Citizens of Hwaseong, Gyeonggi-do, where Park Byung-hwa, a habitual sex offender, has settled, are demanding their forced eviction.

The move by Cho Doo-soon, a child rapist, also met with extreme resistance, and residents were particularly concerned that there were many kindergartens and schools nearby.

In this situation, the first thing Justice Minister Han Dong-hoon stressed in the new year is a country safe from crime.

It was the “Jessica method” that I insisted I could no longer put off.

The Jessica Act is a law derived from the name of a victim of child sexual assault who lost her life in the United States. If you commit a sex crime against a child under the age of 12, you will be sentenced to at least 25 years in prison and must wear an electronic anklet for the rest of your life.

Residency restrictions are critical, and while there are differences from state to state, pedophiles in Florida cannot live within 1,000 feet of schools after being released from jail.

The Ministry of Justice ordered a service for overseas case studies, including the Jessica Act, in October last year and is currently working on the final phase.

An official of the Ministry of Justice explained that the results of the study will sooner or later be published, taking into account the conflict between the reality of our country and constitutional values, public consensus and the budget.

In his New Year’s speech, Attorney General Lee Won-seok also asked prosecutors to do their best to protect people’s safety and property, bearing in mind that crimes can happen to family members and neighbors at any time.
