While the educational gap caused by distance classes is being pointed out as a problem in public education, the government is reviewing ways to expand school attendance.
First of all, it seems that the target will be the lower grades of elementary school, but it seems that the large framework of the principle of attendance according to the social distancing stage that has been kept up to now will be maintained.

Currently, the number of attending kindergartens and elementary, middle and high schools moves in conjunction with the social distancing stage.
Levels 1 and 1.5 are 2/3 school attendance, Level 2 or 2.5 is 1/3 school attendance, and Level 3 is full-scale remote class.
The government is considering ways to provide more resilience while maintaining this large framework of distancing.
This is because the educational gap and caring gap widened as distance learning prolonged.

The World Health Organization’s report that children and adolescents have lower rates of corona19 infection and milder symptoms than adults is also the basis for expanding the number of attendance days.
In a recent paper, Chung Eun-kyung, director of the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, argued the necessity of expanding school attendance, saying that between May and July of last year, only 2.4% of patients were infected.
Accordingly, the government is promoting a plan to increase the number of days to school by expanding exceptions for the lower grades of elementary school.

The Ministry of Education said that there will be no postponement of school opening like last year, and that it will confirm and announce plans to attend school prior to the opening of school in March.
