[사회]”Half of operating cost is heating cost”… Welfare facility ‘soreum’ due to public fee increase

Quite a few people were surprised to see last month’s heating bills, which were frighteningly raised by the gas price hike.

Welfare facilities operated with subsidies are having a more painful impact on public utility rates.

A local children’s center in Guro-gu, Seoul, is taking care of 37 elementary school students from multicultural families or families receiving basic livelihood security.

It is a space where children live, so we always try to keep it warm, but it is not easy to increase the gas boiler temperature.

This is because the gas price hike was reflected, and the heating cost bomb hit last month.

The amount charged for a space of less than 100㎡ was 790,000 won.

It was cooler than the same month last year, maintaining 17 to 18 degrees lower than the indoor temperature in winter, but the rate went up by more than 50%.

Half of the operating cost went to heating.

Homeless facilities are also breathing a sigh of relief due to skyrocketing heating costs.

As 100 to 150 homeless people visit every day to warm up in the harsh cold, kerosene boilers and heaters are always running.

However, the price of kerosene, which used to be about 1,000 won per liter, soared in a year, putting them in a difficult situation.

Compared to the same period last year, industrial city gas rates applied to social welfare facilities rose by 40%, and kerosene also jumped by more than 400 won per liter.

In the aftermath of the Russia-Ukraine war and high exchange rates, natural gas and oil prices have risen sharply and public utility bills have fluctuated.

The more money you spend on heating, the less you spend on other things.

Accordingly, the Ministry of Health and Welfare also decided to provide additional support for heating costs to some social welfare facilities, but there is room for further heating costs to rise in the future, so it is difficult to rule out the possibility that their worries will continue throughout the winter.
