As concerns about security incidents have increased since the ‘Itaewon disaster’, there has been a surge in requests for the police to deploy riot police to handle the crowds.
In a situation where large-scale downtown demonstrations are scheduled every weekend, local governments and private units are pouring in requests for the deployment of riot police, and grievances about the site are piling up.

As concerns about security incidents after the disaster grow, complaints are pouring in from all over asking the police to deploy riot police.
An official from the security department of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency said calls for sending riot police to events hosted by private units or local governments have increased since the disaster.
Last weekend, in fact, a police riot squad was exceptionally deployed at the site of an essay and an interview at a major university in Seoul.
In addition to the city marathon and bicycle march, some 120 personnel from two riot squads were deployed throughout the city this past weekend alone.
There have even been local governments calling for a riot squad to be sent to the site of elections for the leaders of local sports clubs.
Sighs are also piling up on the scene as calls for the deployment of riot police coming from all over the place mostly overlap with weekends when large-scale demonstrations are held in the city.
It’s not uncommon for employees to return on weekends, as well as postponing pre-arranged vacation days until the end of the year.
In the police, there are fears that there could be further staff shortages in the future as the task force’s job, originally ranked as the number one priority in the prevention department, increases.
