Children’s treatment crisis becomes a reality… waiting 1 hour at the neighborhood children’s office

As the number of children’s clinics, both in teaching hospitals and community hospitals, is drastically declining, concerns about the therapeutic table are gradually becoming a reality.

As patients pour into the open children’s clinic, the waiting time is around an hour, and the pediatric specialist at a university hospital gives more than half in two months.

This was reported by journalist Lim Seong-jae.

A children’s clinic in Mapo-gu, Seoul.

Within an hour of starting treatment, the waiting area is filled with children and guardians.

It takes about 30 minutes to an hour to receive medical care.

From the patient’s point of view, it can only be perceived more slowly.

As more than 660 local children’s hospitals have closed in the past five years, patients are pouring into the remaining hospitals.

The future is more uncertain.

The number of applications for pediatric majors has plummeted, so only 33 of the 207 quotas have applied for this year’s intake.

As the number of residents caring for emergency patients mainly at night on weekdays and on weekends and holidays has drastically decreased, teaching hospitals have been hit hard.

Metropolitan area hospitals also do not receive inpatients or drastically reduce hours of care.

In front of the emergency room of Gangnam Severance Hospital, a notice was posted stating that pediatric emergency patients cannot be treated after 10pm.

Doctors are reluctant because there are almost no unpayable items due to the low birth rate.

A bigger problem is that there is not even a discussion body that can solve these problems.

Two months later, 188 fourth-year pediatricians leave the teaching hospital after completing training, but only 33 are recruited, raising concerns of a “medical crisis”.

As it is emphasized that the infrastructure of pediatric care has already started to fall like dominoes, countermeasures are urgently needed.
