It was revealed that a worker at a partner company of Korea Electric Power Co., Ltd. died after being electrocuted by a transformer while working alone on vacation.

First, reporter Guna-yeon Koo covered the story.

Due to the electric shock, the clothes were completely absorbed by the skin and the rescue team was cut all over.

Traces of burnt blackening are also evident.

These are the clothes that Kim Hyo-yong, 52, a worker at a KEPCO supplier, wore during work on August 6.

It was a Saturday afternoon.

Kim, who went to work at the high-voltage cable laying site in Goyang-si, Gyeonggi-do, was electrocuted while working on a transformer.

While examining the inside of the transformer, Kim suffered an electric shock to the back of her neck and shoulder.

At that time, a voltage of hundreds of volts flowed through the transformer.

“You’re talking about someone electrocuted … there’s a lot of damage to the back of this (head) …”

Mr. Kim reported third-degree burns on the back of his neck and head, brain haemorrhages, brain edema, and even a disease in which the muscles have loosened and disappeared.

“It was difficult to treat the burns due to the cerebral hemorrhage, and it was difficult to treat the cerebral hemorrhage due to the burns.”

Kim, who had been receiving treatment for over a month, underwent an 8-hour skin graft on the 14th of last month.

Coincidentally, it was his lunar birthday and his wife’s solar birthday.

“I wanted to show it to my cake at home, and this after my father’s surgery, but it hurt so much … I fell asleep a bit after turning it on.”

However, Kim lost consciousness due to a stroke soon after the operation and eventually died five days later.

After the accident, I couldn’t even watch the 15-second video sent by the two daughters who couldn’t see their father’s face well.

The building where the accident occurred was borne by a subcontractor who had been awarded an order from KEPCO.

However, on the day of the incident, which was Saturday, it was confirmed that the company had carried out “unauthorized work” without first reporting to KEPCO.

For this reason, it was not possible to carry out the risk assessment of KEPCO, for example if the electricity had been interrupted, before the works and a supervisor in charge of the construction was not assigned.

The subcontractor didn’t even have a safety manager, so only Mr. Kim was around the transformer at the time of the accident.

“It sounds like a loud noise and it seems like something is going on and I came up. When I got there, I saw that no one was left around.”

In January, after the late Kim Da-un was electrocuted while working on a power pole, KEPCO banned “unauthorized work,” but this was not followed up on the site.
