[국제]What does the Ukrainian battlefield look like?…”Guilt, fear, heartlessness” | YTN

[앵커]

Casualties continue to mount in Ukraine as a result of the Russian invasion.

It is said that the psychological trauma of soldiers is also a serious problem as the war enters into a prolonged phase.

I’ll connect you to Ukraine, reporter Kim Seung-hwan!

[기자]

Yes, this is Kiev, Ukraine.

[앵커]

It seems that the psychological trauma of soldiers and civilians caused by war continues to be a hot topic.

[기자]

This is the ‘Wall of Remembrance’ with pictures of soldiers who died fighting for the country.

Photos of the victims of this war continue to be added to the walls.

The Ukrainian government estimates that in addition to those who lost their lives, more than 60% of the remaining soldiers suffered from PTSD, or post-traumatic stress disorder.

YTN reporters met with a psychological counselor in their 20s who had volunteered to enlist last year. He said that the hardest thing for soldiers on the battlefield is guilt as a survivor.

In addition, as the war continues, it is pointed out that if there are no serious bodily injuries, not getting the necessary treatment in time increases the problem.

These days, the battle scene is uploaded in real time through social media. What was the actual battlefield like?

[기자]

After the invasion of Russia last year, I met locals who served as soldiers or engineers on the battlefield.

He said that he always fights fear no matter how long his career has been in a place where life and death come and go, and he emphasized that overcoming it is the only way to become a true warrior.

What these people have in common, the strength to endure is family.

There were even cases where we couldn’t meet because we belonged to the special forces to protect our families.

It is said that if the Russian army bombards all day, no one eats food, but after eating, they have to go to the bathroom, explaining that there is a possibility of becoming a target for the enemy.

He criticized that the once most intimate Russian army is now a heartless being who shoots even wounded soldiers, and has become a laughing stock for its incompetence.

[앵커]

There was also an observation that a large-scale offensive would continue to mark the 1st anniversary of the invasion of Russia, but there is no major change?

[기자]

Yes, local time yesterday, on the 25th, an air raid warning went off here in Kiiwu twice, but there was nothing special about it.

The air raid alert hasn’t gone off today.

Earlier, the UK Ministry of Defense had analyzed that Russia’s drone stocks may have been exhausted.

There was no record of the use of these drones in Ukraine for 10 days after the last 15 days.

In the midst of this, a high-ranking Russian diplomat criticized Western countries for providing tanks and other equipment to Ukraine in a media interview and warned that they would take serious retaliatory measures.

This is YTN Kim Seung-hwan from Kiiu, Ukraine.
