The United States returns to the UN Human Rights Council in three years.
“We are pleased to announce that Secretary of State Tony Blincoln is announcing that the United States will re-join the UN Human Rights Council as an observer,” said Deputy Ambassador Mark Cathayer Toneva at the UN Human Rights Council organizing meeting.

Earlier, the United States withdrew from the UN Human Rights Council in June 2018, when former President Trump was in office, saying that it showed prejudice and resentment to Israel and turned away from the reforms the United States demanded.
