[국제]Japan considers suspending new aid projects in Myanmar… to contain coup forces

It turns out that the Japanese government is considering suspending official development assistance projects in Myanmar, where the military coup took place for the time being.

Japanese media, such as the Asahi Shimbun, said they are considering stopping the new aid project, taking into account the growing public opinion of the international community against the Myanmar military.

Japan is the largest donor country in Myanmar, which has provided loans and free cooperation funds worth about 2 trillion won in 2019, so if the support is suspended, the Myanmar military is expected to put a considerable burden.

The Japanese government, however, is considering continuing support through international and non-governmental organizations and supporting Corona 19 in humanitarian terms.

There have been active economic exchanges between the two countries, with more than 430 Japanese companies currently operating in Myanmar.
