Analysis results show that the Corona 19 vaccine developed by AstraZeneca and Oxford University has virtually no preventive effect against mutant viruses from South Africa.
According to foreign media, a small clinical trial jointly conducted by Oxford University and the University of South Africa’s Bitbadersland showed that the AstraZeneca vaccine prevented mutations in South Africa only 10%.
In this trial, 19 out of the 748 people vaccinated were infected with the South African mutation, and out of 714 people who took the placebo, 20 were infected, making virtually no difference.
Professor Shabir Madi, who led the test, predicted that even if the participating group was expanded and retaken, it would be difficult to reach 40-50%.
He added that the AstraZeneca vaccine did not prevent mild and moderate infections even in young people with fewer underlying diseases.
Meanwhile, according to a paper published in the medical journal Nature Medicine by researchers at the University of Texas, the Pfizer vaccine was estimated to be effective in both variants from South Africa and the UK.
The researchers extracted plasma from 20 people who had been vaccinated twice with Pfizer vaccine to see if the antibodies in the plasma were effective against artificial mutations, and found that the average was 81% effective.
The artificial mutation reflects the dendritic protein changes seen in mutations originating in South Africa and the UK, and the Guardian Daily in the UK says the mutation does not drastically reduce the preventive effect of the Pfizer vaccine.
