The government has come up with the 9th power supply and demand plan with the framework of greatly increasing the number of liquefied natural gas and LNG instead of significantly reducing nuclear and coal generation by 2034.
According to this plan, electricity bills are expected to rise by 10% over the next 10 years or so.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy set a policy to eliminate 30 coal power plants and reduce the number of nuclear power plants to 17 units by 2034 in the 9th power supply and demand plan.
Instead, we plan to convert 24 coal power plants to LNG power generation to stabilize power supply and demand.
The key is to gradually reduce coal and nuclear power generation and expand renewable energy over the next 15 years.
According to this plan, by 2034, LNG is the largest with 47.3%, followed by coal 22.7%, nuclear power plants 15.5%, and renewable energy 8.6%.
At a public hearing held online due to the re-proliferation of Corona 19, doubts about the development of LNG were also raised.
Regarding the point that LNG power generation generates greenhouse gases and fine dust, experts answered that LNG is more eco-friendly than coal power generation, but it is still true that greenhouse gas is still emitted, so efforts to develop eco-friendly technologies are needed.
In addition, regarding the increase in electricity rates, the Ministry of Industry said, “It is difficult to quantitatively predict how much electricity rates will increase at this point,” and predicted that “the 10.9% increase will not go beyond the 10.9% increase by 2030 as suggested in the 8th electricity plan.
However, the industry is demanding amendments to the fact that the specific outlook for electricity rates is not specified in the electricity supply and demand plan.
