Monkeypox Vaccine to be Produced for 24 Hours Due to High Demand

Merdeka.com – Bavarian Nordic A/S, the only pharmaceutical company whose monkeypox vaccine is licensed, said it is preparing production of a monkeypox vaccine that will last for 24 hours due to high demand. Demand for this vaccine soared after the World Health Organization (WHO) declared monkeypox a global health emergency.

According to WHO data, currently around 17,000 cases of monkeypox are reported in 74 countries.

“Whatever demand we will face, we hope to meet it with our own resources,” said Bavarian Nordic A/S head of investor relations, Rolf Sass Sorensen.

“One really easy solution is to run our production facilities all night and hire more people to work shifts.”

This Danish vaccine company can produce 30 million doses per year and so far has not refused orders from governments of various countries.

Sorensen said his company has now implemented longer operating hours and working overtime will increase production by over 30 million doses.

Earlier on Monday, the Bavarian Nordic said their Imvanex vaccine had clearance for monkeypox and other diseases caused by the vaccinia virus in Europe. [pan]
