LOS ANGELES (AP) — Mookie Betts hit a career-high 36 homers this season while David Peralta went 3 for 4 with two RBIs as the Los Angeles Dodgers crushed 9-1 on Tuesday night. 1 to the Arizona Diamondbacks.
The Dodgers had 16 hits and posted their fourth win at home. They improved to 23-4 in August.
Freddie Freeman leads the majors with 176 hits, but he was the only Dodger not to get a hit on the day. Jason Heyward went 3 for 4 with two RBIs, while Chris Taylor went 3 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored.
Betts sent the ball 428 feet from home plate, between left-center field, to the first pitch by reliever Scott McGough in the sixth inning. One out later, Will Smith homered to make it 9-1.
Betts and Freeman went to rest from then on.
Clayton Kershaw (12-4) allowed one run and three hits in five innings, striking out five and walking three. He tied Don Drysdale (209) for the second-winningest pitcher in franchise history.
The Dodgers scored three runs off Merrill Kelly (10-6) in the first inning.
