Varberg’s 5-0 Victory Over Halmstad in Allsvenskan – IFK Göteborg Takes over Jumbo Spot

IFK Göteborg is a new jumbo in the Allsvenskan.

It is clear after Varberg drove over Halmstad in the Halland derby.

– A fantastic effort from minute one, says Oliver Stanisic in Discovery.

22 straight away games without keeping a clean sheet. The last time was against IFK Norrköping in the Allsvenskan premiere on April 3 last year.

But against Halmstad, the curse was broken, and with notice. The match ended 5-0 to Varberg – after an overrun in the first half.

“Deplorable”

When the half-time whistle blew, HBK was booed by the home crowd, who during the first 45 minutes were forced to witness no less than four behind goals.

– Where to start? It is under all criticism. We go out and start well for a few minutes but after that we’re not there, says Jack Cooper Love in the halftime interview with Discovery.

– It is inexplicable. We weren’t in our heads today, says Joel Allansson after the match.

In Varberg, the tone was all the more cheerful after the 5-0 thrashing.

– I don’t really know what to say. It’s a fantastic effort from minute one until added time. We play as a team today. I’m so damn proud of the boys, says Oliver Stanisic to Discovery after the match.

Early goalie change

The first half was eventful to say the least.

At the center of the action was Halmstad’s goalkeeper Malkolm Nilsson Säfqvist – who managed to account for two costly mistakes that both resulted in Varberg goals, before being replaced after 23 minutes due to a thigh injury.

In between the posts came Malte Pålsson, but it didn’t help much. Before the first half was over, he had managed to drop two sacks behind him – both from Eliton’s feet.

With just over five minutes left in regular time, centre-back Oliver Stanisic completed the rout by making it 5-0 to the visitors from a corner.

Blåvitt takes over the jumbo spot

The victory was only Varberg’s second of the season.

– Of course it means a lot. It’s a match that gives an extra spice because it’s a derby, says Oliver Stanisic.

This means you climb past IFK Göteborg, who now take over the jumbo spot in the Allsvenskan table.

But despite the result, the Hallenians still live dangerously in the battle for the bottom.

– For us, it’s a final every week that comes and every game that comes. So we have to take the old cliché “one match at a time” and then we’ll see where it leads, says Oliver Stanisic.

Tomorrow Sunday, Blåvitt will host Kalmar FF at home at Gamla Ullevi.
