This may change soon. Scientists at the University of California, Riverside, have been able to obtain a material that could represent a third opt: a screen that can repair itself, shows Business Insider.
Tests so far have shown that not only superficial cracks repair themselves. A split screen regenerates itself in less than 24 hours, said study coordinator Chao Wang.
The material obtained by researchers can also conduct electricity, which makes it unique.
Chao Wang predicts that this material will be used for smartphones by 2020.
“Healing materials may seem far away in terms of applicability, but I think they will be used very soon in mobile phones. In three years, more and more self-healing products will hit the market and change our lives,” said the researcher. .
The invention is presented Tuesday at a meeting of the American Chemical Society, the world’s largest chemical-related event.
