A battle between styles, between experience and youth and between finesse and strength. That was on the menu in the quarterfinals between Roger Federer and Hubert Hurkacz.
Hurkacz has never reached the quarterfinals, Federer has already won the legendary grass tournament nine times. And yet it was the 24-year-old Pole who started the match best. The tall number 18 in the world went through the Swiss’s serve, which was enough to grab the set win.
In set 2, the Swiss immediately took control of the match. Hurkacz couldn’t enjoy his serve game for long and was forced to chase. Federer played an offensive game at the net, but Hurkacz was not impressed and forced a tiebreak after all.
In it, the Swiss missed an easy smash, the sign for the Pole to double his lead.
Federer turned his gaze more and more to the grass. The sign that the spring was broken on the Swiss. Hubert Hurkacz gave the former number 1 no more game and put the painful 6-0 numbers on the board in set 3.
