Comdirect is swallowed: what four million affected customers should now know

It is unclear whether the free account will disappear entirely. It is possible that Commerzbank will set a minimum turnover for Comdirect customers.

Anyone who does not reach the minimum monthly turnover by bank transfer, standing orders or incoming payments must pay for their account. At Commerzbank, the minimum turnover is currently 1,200 euros.

Anyone who books 1,200 euros per month through their salary, pension or other income does not have to pay anything for the account. If a smaller sum is received monthly, the account will cost EUR 4.90 per month in the best case or EUR 58.80 per year.

The following generally applies: Comdirect customers receive a special right of termination if fees or contracts change. The bank generally sends a detailed letter via the online mailbox or by post. Customers have to react to this, otherwise the bank assumes that the customer agrees to the changes.

Everyone should check for themselves whether a change is worthwhile. Today, a large number of direct banks offer free accounts without restrictions. These include the DKB, Norisbank, 1822direkt or ING.
