Bus Crash in Genesee County, New York Claims Four Lives
A tour bus crash in Pembroke, New York, on Friday, august 22, 2025, resulted in four fatalities and over a dozen injuries. the crash occurred on Interstate 90.
Authorities have identified the deceased as:
Mei Feng, 66, of New York, New York
Madhu Bani, of Madhu Bani, India
Pinki changrani, 60, of East Brunswick, New Jersey
Xie Hongzhuo, 22, of Beijing, China. Hongzhuo was a student at Columbia University.
Zhang Xiaolan, 55, of Jersey City, New Jersey
Jian Mingli, 56, of Jersey City
The bus driver, Bin Shao, 55, of Flushing, Queens, New York, showed no signs of impairment, according to state police.
The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing. The bus, operated by M&Y Tour Inc., was traveling eastbound on the interstate when it left the roadway, entered the median, and then “abruptly” corrected, overturning and rolling onto the shoulder. no other vehicles were involved.
“It’s believed the operator became distracted, lost control, overcorrected and ended up on the right shoulder there,” stated New York State Police Troop T Major Andre Ray during a news conference.
state police have ruled out mechanical failure and driver impairment as contributing factors. Passengers ranged in age from 1 to 74 and represented multiple countries, including the U.S.,China,india,the Philippines,and nations in the Middle East. No children were among the deceased.
The crash caused temporary closures in both directions of the interstate.
