Marqeta enables Square business credit card on its platform
Block-owned Square is moving its entire card portfolio onto Marqeta’s platform, migrating existing debit, prepaid, and credit programs to a single issuer processor. Finextra Research reported that the integration includes the Square Credit Card, which is backed by the American Express Network and gives sellers a credit line that scales with business volume. Marqeta, trading on NASDAQ under the ticker MQ, announced that it is enabling the business credit card for sellers.
Expanding a Partnership Built on Business Banking
The consolidation follows an initial 2019 partnership where Square and Marqeta launched a business debit card for small business owners.
Andrea Raj, Head of Product for Square Banking at Block, said that managing both credit and debit programs on Marqeta’s platform allows the company to operate faster and safer. Marqeta utilized its portfolio migration capabilities to transfer existing accounts and credentials without disrupting cardholders.

Streamlining Operations Through a Single Integration
Marqeta’s commercial credit platform handles end-to-end tasks including card issuance, transaction processing, underwriting, rewards management, risk controls, and dispute resolution through a single integration.
Meeting Growing Market Demand for Flexible Credit
Market demand supports the structural shift. Marqeta’s 2026 State of Credit report found that 96% of surveyed small and medium-sized businesses are intentional about their payment methods.
The same research showed that 34% of these businesses switch between credit products as they grow, while 64% want a clear path from entry-level to advanced financial offerings. Todd Pollak, Chief Revenue Officer at Marqeta, called the expansion a strong example of the deep partnership between the two firms, pointing to the ability to build and iterate on small business credit products faster. This launch is a strong example of what that partnership enables, bringing Square’s full card portfolio onto one platform so they can build and iterate on credit products for small businesses faster than ever before,
Pollak said.
