Trump Criticizes UN, Claims Nobel Peace Prize Merit, and Laments Facility Issues During UNGA Address
NEW YORK – former U.S. President Donald Trump delivered a pointed critique of the United Nations during his appearance at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) this week, questioning its effectiveness in achieving world peace and asserting his own accomplishments warrant a Nobel Peace Prize. He also voiced frustration over logistical problems at UN headquarters, including a malfunctioning teleprompter and a broken elevator.
Trump, speaking on Tuesday, condemned recent moves toward recognizing Palestinian statehood, echoing sentiments reported by CNN International on Wednesday (September 24th). He stated that potential for resolution exists, but current diplomatic efforts are insufficient. “They have extraordinary potential, but moast have not been able to achieve that potential,” Trump said, adding,”At least for now, they seem to only write a firm letter and have never followed up. It is indeed just nonsense, and nonsense does not complete the war. The only one that can complete the war and war is action.” He further implied the UN has failed in its core mission of preventing conflict.
According to a report by Al Jazeera, Trump highlighted his own record, suggesting he deserves recognition for his peace-making efforts. “It is unfortunate that I have to do these things, instead of the United Nations who do it, and regrettably, in all cases, the United Nations did not even try to help in anything,” he stated. He contrasted his perceived successes with the UN’s inaction, claiming,”the United Nations did not exist for us.”
Beyond policy critiques, Trump also drew attention to the physical conditions at UN headquarters. “These are the two things that I got from the United Nations, a bad escalator and a bad teleprompter,” he remarked, adding he was preoccupied with “saving millions of lives” and “stopping these wars” at the time. His UNGA appearance reportedly extended almost an hour beyond the scheduled time.
