Ridgewood, NJ – Filming for an upcoming Netflix movie starring Natalie Portman and Mark Ruffalo took place in Verona on July 1, adding to New Jersey’s growing reputation as a prime filming destination.

The Garden state has recently seen a surge in film and television production, with notable projects like “Happy Gilmore 2,” starring Adam Sandler, being shot in locations such as Washington Township and Bedminster. Earlier this year, veteran actor Robert De Niro was spotted in Paterson for the filming of the Netflix movie “The Whisper Man.”

New Jersey’s appeal to filmmakers extends to a diverse range of productions. Movies such as “A complete Unknown,” “Joker,” and “The Many Saints of Newark” have also utilized the state’s varied landscapes as their backdrop,with many more projects choosing the state for their production needs.

The state’s burgeoning film industry is further bolstered by notable investments from major players like Netflix, which has established a new headquarters building at Fort Monmouth. Additionally,a Lionsgate film and television studio is currently under construction in newark,signaling a commitment to expanding the state’s production infrastructure.

The New Jersey Motion Picture and Television Commission, under the Murphy governance, has actively supported the industry through tax incentives. Previously, the state allocated $758 million in tax breaks to encourage film and television production within its borders.

While the specific movie being filmed in Ridgewood is generating local buzz, an official release date has not yet been announced.
