Following a devastating 6-1 loss too Turkey in World Cup qualification, coach Velislav Vutsov publicly criticized years of mismanagement within Bulgarian football. Speaking from the runway at the National Stadium to bulgaria’s BNT television, Vutsov, son of football icon Ivan Vutsov, asserted the defeat wasn’t an isolated incident but the culmination of systemic failures.
The stinging rebuke came instantly after the match, with Vutsov responding to a presenter’s question by stating, “We don’t lose the match today, my friend. We lose it for many years from management and the way we work.” He further lamented ongoing experimentation within the team and expressed his dissatisfaction with the second-half performance, describing it as “a pathetic view.”
Former national team player Gosho Ginchev echoed Vutsov’s sentiments, adding,”One,two, three times we make all the same mistakes. So we are fools.” The comments highlight growing frustration with the national team’s performance and raise questions about the future direction of Bulgarian football leadership. The loss to Turkey significantly impacts Bulgaria‘s chances of qualifying for the world Cup, and these criticisms signal a potential demand for substantial changes within the football administration.
