DAYTONA BEACH, FL – November 24, 2025 - James Fishback, a Florida political operative with a controversial past and ties to both Donald Trump and the Dogecoin cryptocurrency community, announced his candidacy for Florida governor Monday. Fishback is campaigning on a platform centered around anti-immigration policies and increasing affordability for Florida residents.
Fishback’s career has spanned various political and business ventures. He previously worked as a lobbyist focused on H-1B visas, which allow companies to hire foreign workers skilled in specific occupations.
Earlier this year, Fishback gained attention for publicly aligning himself with the Dogecoin (DOGE) cryptocurrency, appearing on conservative media outlets as a “DOGE advisor” and promoting proposals related to the digital currency.He reportedly suggested a $5,000 “DOGE Dividend” plan, which was shared by Elon Musk. However, ABC News reported that multiple former DOGE officials stated Fishback had no official role with the group and was exaggerating his connection. fishback himself told Breitbart he disengaged from DOGE around may or June following a public dispute between Musk and Trump.
In August, Fishback reportedly sought a position on the Federal Reserve Board of Governors, offering to serve as Trump’s “bulldog” on the issue, according to ABC News. Trump ultimately nominated Stephen Miran, chair of the Council of Economic Advisors, to the position.
Fishback’s personal life has also been subject to scrutiny. He recently won a case against a protection injunction sought by Keinah Fort, a former executive director at Incubate Debate, who accused him of stalking. Florida Politics reported that several hearings in the case involved discussion of “Fishback’s alleged history of domestic violence.”
Fishback’s core campaign promises include restricting immigration, specifically targeting H-1B visas, and addressing affordability concerns in Florida. He articulated his view on affordability stating, ”If you can’t buy a home, you can’t get married. if you can’t get married,you can’t have kids. if you can’t have kids, what is the point?”
He has also proposed eliminating property taxes for Florida residents who own and occupy homesteaded properties.
