Phoenix Sky Harbor Experiences Delays and Cancellations Amid ⁣Dallas Flight Disruptions

PHOENIX ⁣- Flights at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport were significantly ‌impacted⁢ Friday, with 212 flights delayed and ⁣eight⁢ canceled as ‍of 5 p.m. local ⁤time, according too flight tracking website⁣ FlightAware. the disruptions stem from ‍ongoing issues with air traffic control⁤ in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

The Federal‌ Aviation Administration (FAA) implemented ground delays and, at ‌times, ground stops for flights ⁤traveling to and from Dallas airports due to unspecified⁤ issues‌ with the Terminal⁢ Radar Approach Control (TRACON)‌ system, which guides aircraft approaching ⁤and⁤ departing airports.

All eight canceled flights at Sky ‍Harbor were American Airlines flights operating between Phoenix and Dallas.

The FAA clarifies that while it can order ground stops or delays, it does not directly cancel flights.

Sky Harbor relies heavily on American and Southwest Airlines, which together account for approximately 70% of the airport’s flight ⁤capacity.

Both American and Southwest are ‌offering ⁤flexibility to passengers‍ affected by the⁤ disruptions. American Airlines is‍ allowing changes to itineraries for travel ⁤between September 19 and 21⁣ without fare ‍differences, while Southwest is permitting rebooking within 14 days of the original travel date, provided the original city pairs ‍and cabin class are maintained.
