According to a report by the autonomous Russian exile media outlet Important Stories, at least 60 Russian conscripts have died during the Ukrainian counter-offensive in the Kursk region during the summer and autumn of 2024. The report, based on publicly available data including social media posts from relatives, estate registers, and media reports, indicates the average age of the deceased conscripts was around 20 years old. Nearly half of these deaths occurred within the first few days of the Ukrainian offensive. The fate of over 60 additional conscripts remains unkown.while the Russian army maintains conscripts are not deployed in combat roles against Ukrainian forces, but rather assigned to other tasks, reports of conscript involvement in fighting in the border region have surfaced.Russian regulations stipulate that conscripts can only be deployed in combat after completing one year of military service and signing a contract for continued service.
