Kyiv is intensifying its accusations against Beijing, alleging direct support for Russia’s military-industrial complex. Oleh ivashchenko, the head of Ukraine’s foreign intelligence service, asserts that his agency possesses concrete evidence of Chinese assistance. This claim comes amid ongoing denials from China and increasing scrutiny from Western nations.

In an interview, Mr.Ivashchenko stated that Ukraine can confirm
that China is providing critical materials and equipment to 20 Russian military factories. This confirmation follows previous accusations from Kyiv regarding China’s role in supporting Moscow’s war efforts.
There is information that China supplies tooling machines, special chemical products, gunpowder, and components specifically to defense manufacturing industries. We have confirmed data on 20 Russian factories.

China’s Response and Economic Ties
Beijing has consistently refuted allegations of aiding Russia’s war against Ukraine, dismissing them as groundless.
Despite projecting an image of neutrality,trade and economic cooperation between China and Russia have increased significantly since the invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. This increase occurs as Western countries impose stringent sanctions on Moscow.
Previous Accusations and Sanctions
Ukraine has repeatedly suggested Chinese support for the war, even alleging that Beijing has sent soldiers to fight alongside Russian forces. Last month, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy publicly accused China of supplying gunpowder and materials to Russia’s arms manufacturers and alleged that Chinese citizens are assisting in drone production.

In response to these accusations, Kyiv has imposed sanctions on three Chinese entities.
Specific Instances of Cooperation
Mr. Ivashchenko detailed specific instances of Russian-Chinese cooperation in the aviation sector between 2024 and 2025, including the transfer of equipment, spare parts, and technical documentation. He also mentioned six cases involving large shipments
of specialty chemicals but did not provide further details.
Moreover, Mr. Ivashchenko stated that as of early 2025,80 percent of critical electronic components found in Russian drones originated in China.
He also noted the use of product substitutions, deceptive product names; there are shell companies through which everything necessary for the production of microelectronics is supplied.
Recent Drone Attacks
These accusations coincide with a recent surge in Russian drone attacks on Ukraine. Ukraine’s Air Force reported that russia launched a record number of drones overnight.According to the report, Russian forces deployed 298 drones and 69 missiles, but the Air Force claimed to have downed 266 drones and 45 missiles. Al Jazeera was not able to independently verify the figures. Ukraine described the attack as the largest of the war in terms of weapons fired.
