Colombian President Petro Calls for Dialog with Trump Amidst Pro-Palestine Protests
BOGOTÁ, Colombia – Colombian President Gustavo Petro has directly appealed to former U.S. President Donald Trump for dialogue, extending an invitation to discuss the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the Middle East. PetroS message, delivered as mass pro-Palestine demonstrations unfolded globally, signaled a willingness to move beyond diplomatic tensions and seek “a common understanding” between the two countries.
“I am decent, Come and talk. I haven’t taken a whiskey or brandy for a long time, but we even take it and talk,” Petro stated, according to reports.
The call for discussion coincided with a surge in activity on Petro’s X (formerly Twitter) account, where he shared videos and messages highlighting the widespread protests in support of Palestine. In a recent post, Petro directly addressed Trump, stating, “It doesn’t go anymore, Trump.Put your army next to Colombia’s and other armies of the world. We are going to free Palestine.”
The post was accompanied by footage of demonstrations in cities including Barcelona, London, Toronto, Bangkok, Rome, Pakistan, and Mexico City.
Petro also commented on perceived social and political shifts in other nations, tweeting about “Europe in constituent mode” with a general strike against genocide, and describing Mexico City as “a living, constituent, empowered people.” He further urged trump to “listen to the voice of humanity and forget to do gaza in the lands full of oil in south America,” referencing the situation in Gaza and potential geopolitical interests.
In a subsequent post, Petro declared, “humanity rises free, it is the time of revolutions. The dark forces that kill life must be demolished.”
Petro’s statements reflect his ongoing criticism of the conflict in Gaza and his efforts to garner international support for a cessation of hostilities. The Colombian president has consistently voiced his concern over the escalating violence and the humanitarian consequences for Palestinian civilians.
