Luka Dončić’s Contract Extension with Dallas Mavericks Remains Uncertain This Summer
Luka Dončić’s future with the Dallas Mavericks is a critically important talking point this summer, particularly with the potential for a contract extension. While eligible to sign a new deal starting August 2nd, ESPN’s Brian Windhorst reports that Dončić intends to defer his decision until after the 2025 european Championship.
Dončić’s current contract guarantees him nearly $46 million for the 2025-2026 season. He also holds a player option for the 2026-2027 season, valued at approximately $49 million. The Slovenian superstar has the prospect to sign a four-year extension worth $229 million, or a three-year deal for $165 million, which would offer greater future versatility. Notably, due to his impressive performance last season, Dončić is not eligible for a Supermax-type extension under the terms of his current agreement.
Despite these crucial decisions regarding his NBA career, dončić is currently focused on representing his national team. Slovenia is set to compete in the group stage of the European Championship in Katowice, Poland, from August 28th to September 4th. their opponents in the group stage include Poland, France, belgium, Iceland, and Israel.
