Instagram Launches Native iPad App After Years of User Requests
SAN FRANCISCO, CA – Instagram has officially released a dedicated app for iPad, bringing a redesigned experience optimized for larger screens after years of user demand. The launch, announced today via the official Instagram blog, marks the first time the platform has offered a native iPad request.
The new app prioritizes immersive, lean-back entertainment, opening directly into Reels. Stories are positioned at the top for easy access, and messaging is available wiht a single tap. Instagram states the design aims to provide more features with fewer taps, utilizing the larger screen real estate to display messages and notifications in improved layouts. Users watching reels can now expand comments without losing the full-screen video view.
“Peopel have asked for this for a while, and we’ve taken the time to design an experience that optimizes your favorite parts of Instagram for a bigger screen,” Instagram representatives stated in the blog post. ”With Instagram for iPad, we’ve redesigned the experience to reflect how people use bigger screens today – for lean back entertainment.”
The iPad app is currently rolling out globally to devices supporting iPadOS 15.1 and later. A version for Android tablets is “coming soon.”
Instagram remains a leading platform for photo and video sharing, connecting users globally with creative content and personal updates. The core function of the app, as described in the iTunes App Store, is to “easily capture moments and share with other people around the world,” allowing users to transform everyday content into artistic works and discover inspiration from a diverse community. The release of the iPad app underscores Instagram’s continued development and adaptation to evolving user needs and device landscapes.
