A fatal dog attack has claimed the life of Cliff Phillips, an employee at the Second Chance Animal Alliance shelter in Yalobusha County, Mississippi. Sheriff Jermain Gooch confirmed that the dogs involved in the incident were part of a larger group of over a dozen animals seized by authorities in connection with an investigation into alleged abuse and dog fighting.

The Second Chance Animal Alliance expressed profound sadness over Phillips’ death in a statement released on July 25.
