Columbus Police Shoot and Kill Man During Robbery Investigation

Columbus police fatally shot a robbery suspect in​ the University District early Sunday morning, authorities said. The​ shooting occured near ⁣the intersection of North High Street and East 8th⁢ Avenue ‍around 3 a.m., prompting a temporary street closure and an ongoing investigation.

The man, whose identity has​ not yet been released, was transported to Grant Medical‍ Center in critical condition and later died, according to columbus Police spokesperson Sergeant David‌ Fuqua. ‌No officers were injured in the incident. The shooting is the latest in ​a series of police-involved shootings in Columbus, raising ‍ongoing questions about use of force and police ‍accountability ​in the city.

Police responded to the ⁤area after receiving reports of a robbery, Fuqua said. Details surrounding the events‌ leading‌ up ‌to the shooting remain ‌under investigation. Police have‍ not identified the officer involved and are working to determine the⁢ identity of the deceased man.

Authorities detained other⁣ individuals for⁢ questioning at the ‌scene, but ⁤it is unclear if any arrests have been⁣ made.⁢ High street was closed in the ​vicinity of the shooting but reopened by​ 11 a.m. Sunday.
