Argentina Reels After Triple homicide Broadcast on Social Media
Buenos Aires, Argentina – A wave of shock and outrage is sweeping across Argentina following the brutal murders of three young women, broadcast live on the social media platform Switch.Authorities have arrested twelve individuals in connection with the crime, alleging a pre-planned operation linked to drug cartel activity. The case has ignited a national conversation about rising violence and its potential roots in organized crime.
The victims – identified as Brenda Del Castillo and two other young women whose names have not been widely released - were killed in a house in Buenos Aires Province. The Minister of Security stated the murders were not spontaneous, but the result of a “planned strategy.” Prior to the killings, witnesses reported seeing a group of individuals digging in the yard of the property. Police discovered blood stains and the smell of chlorine at the scene, indicating an attempt to conceal evidence.
The arrests began on Wednesday,September 24th,with the initial detention of four individuals – two women and two men – found cleaning the crime scene. Eight more suspects were later apprehended. The inquiry is proceeding under the charge of “heavy murder.”
Paula, the mother of Brenda Del Castillo, publicly pleaded for justice, stating, “They killed my daughter… I demand justice for my daughter, so that all who are guilty are punished. They claimed my daughter; she is a good child.” She added, “I want everyone [involved] jailed!”
The incident has sparked concern due to Argentina’s relatively low murder rate compared to other Latin American nations. While Argentina averages 3.8 murders per 100,000 population, and Buenos Aires Province sees 4.3 per 100,000, countries like Ecuador (39 per 100,000 in 2024) and Mexico (25.6 per 100,000 in 2024) experience significantly higher levels of violence. The involvement of drug cartels in this case, if confirmed, would represent a disturbing escalation of criminal activity within Argentina. The three victims were buried on Thursday, September 25th.
